EDUCATION NEWS
This April the Michael Weiss Quartet performs at the University of New Hampshire.
In 2014 Michael was a guest artist at Michigan State and Bowling Green Universities. He also presented a composition master class on Wayne Shorter's music at Rutgers University.
In 2013 Michael's trio was the featured group for Western Illinois University's annual Rhythm Section Festival. He was a guest soloist at Oakland University and presented master classes at University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University.
In 2012 Michael returned to Indiana University for piano master classes and a performance with all-star IU alumni.
In October 2011, Michael presented master classes and performances at the University of Denver, University of Colorado, Boulder and Colorado State University.
During the 2010-2011 school year, Michael joined the faculty of Indiana University jazz department, replacing Luke Gillespie during his sabbatical.
In 2010 Michael presented master classes and performances at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, Eastman School of Music, the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and William Paterson University.
In 2009 Michael presented master classes at Indiana University, the Brubeck Institute, the American School of Modern Music in Paris, Baylor University and William Paterson University.
In 2008 Michael presented master classes at Temple and William Paterson Universities. Michael also presented his Wayne Shorter composition masterclass (see below) at Berklee School of Music and demonstrated bebop piano at Harvard University.
For JazzImprov Magazine's 2007 convention, Michael presented a clinic entitled Get More Out of Your Tunes:
Transform Your Basic Songs Into Full-fledged Compositions That Create a Richer and More Personal Musical Expression
In May, 2007 Michael presented a piano master class at the University of North Texas.
In December, 2006, Michael spent a week as Artist in Residence in Indiana University's jazz department.
Michael is a 2004-2005 grant recipient of Chamber Music America's Residency Partnership Program.
In January 2005 he brought jazz music to the Brooklyn P.S.321 fifth grade class through a series of lectures and concerts.
At the 2004 Conference of the International Association for Jazz Education,
Michael presented a clinic called A Treasure-Trove of Innovation: The Pen of Wayne Shorter - A Survey of the Past Twenty Years.
Utilizing scores and recordings, Michael delved into several samples of the inner workings of Shorter's compositional genius.
